Touch The Rain - Jaythanfic - Chapter 26
Chapter 26 - Nathan
5 hours later
I woke up and pushed my hair out of my eyes, pushing myself up in my plastic seat. I hadn’t gone home, Jay knew as well as I did that I wouldn’t. But I had a small nap, even though plastic hospitals chairs are the most uncomfortable things in the world to sit on, nether mind sleep on. I looked up, slightly bleary eyed as the door next to me opened and then shut as Max came out of Jay’s room.
“Oh you’re awake” he smiled.
“Yeah, is he alright?” I replied.
“He’s fine” Max smiled again, grabbing his jacket from the seat next to me.
“Do they know what…” I asked.
“No, not yet Nath”.
“I’m going to head off mate, but I’ll see you later alright, text me when you know anything” he smiled, patting me on the shoulder before heading off down the corridor and through a set of double doors.
I groaned and pushed myself up, stretching as I did before walking into Jay’s room. “How are you?” I smiled at him, he was sitting up, messing around on his iPod.
“Well I’m dying”. He smiled back weakly, looking up at me.
“Jay”. I snapped.
“I just want them to take this thing out of my hand”, he sighed lifting his hand up, which was attached to a drip, “and let me go home”.
“They don’t know why you collapsed yet, you’ve got to wait” I replied, moving across to the seat next to him and grasping his other hand between mine.
“I feel fine now, I just… my head was throbbing, just too much to drink and not enough sleep and too much fighting”.
“I’m not fighting anymore, I don’t want to fight anymore”. I muttered.
“I’m sorry”. He smiled.
“It’s not your fault, it’s my fault I overreacted”. I sighed.
“Would you please stop blaming yourself”. He replied, rubbing his thumb gently across my knuckles.
“Hi Jay” the doctor smiled walking in, “we’re going to have to carry out another brain scan, you know the drill.” he smiled weakly. He got a needle from off of the trolley he was pushing and injected something into the back of Jay’s hand, through the drip.
“What was that?” I asked, looking up at him.
“Just some radioactive glucose.” He explained, “it’s harmless, it just highlights any abnormalities in the scan, we can find out why you collapsed then” He quickly added, obviously noticing the panic on my face. “I’ll be back in a minute to take you down”. He finished, turning to Jay, who nodded as the doctor turned and left the room.
Jay grasped my hand more tightly and smiled weakly, “Stop worrying, I’ll be fine, I’m used to this now”.
“I know but…”
“Nath, stop it, I’ll be fine. Hopefully this is all they need to do and then I can come home tonight”.
“Great” I smiled weakly, although my tone was slightly sarcastic.
“What?” he questioned, raising his eyebrows.
“Nothing”, I mumbled, remembering what I’d just said about not fighting.
“Well there’s obviously something wrong” Jay retorted, sounding slightly irritated.
“No, I’m just saying great, glad you’re coming home so I can sleep in the spare room again. I mean I love sleeping on my own”. I snapped.
“I’m trying Nath” he hissed, “I thought maybe we could sleep in our bed tonight, together, but now I don’t know, I’d rather stay here”. He replied angrily.
“Jay, I’m sorry”, I mumbled, angry at myself for snapping at him “I just hate not being close to you, you know that’s all I want”.
“Well then you have to work too, I’m not doing this all by myself, I can’t try and regain our relationship, if you don’t help me” he replied sadly, looking away from me.
I sighed, and squeezed his hand, “I’m sorry Jay, I love you, I just want you close to me”.
“I love you too, but we need to get over this, all the fighting, all the jealousy, because I’m sick of it” he muttered.
“So am I, I promise I’ll stop it, I just want you home”. I whispered, as the doctor came into the room, smiling at Jay.
Jay pushed himself out of the hospital bed and held up his hand, his fingers were crossed, “well here’s hoping” he smiled before following the doctor out of the room.
